Mohammed
Al Hijji

Mohammed Al-Hijji is a senior nuclear engineer at Qatar's Ministry of Environment and Climate Change with over a decade of experience. Since joining in 2012, he has significantly contributed to the nation’s nuclear safety framework, including drafting the Qatari nuclear law and managing the licensing and inspection of radioactive sources in medical and industrial applications.

 

As the former Head of the Ministry's Radiation Laboratory, Mohammed developed environmental radiation quality control standards, set national radiation exposure limits, created a nuclear safety plan for radiation emergencies, and monitored radioactive waste disposal.

 

He is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Bristol in the UK, focusing on developing a detection system for monitoring nuclear and radioactive sources in Qatari seawater to enhance safety measures. He holds a degree in Nuclear Engineering from Kyunghee University, South Korea, and a Master's in Nuclear Safety, Security, and Safeguards from the University of Central Lancashire, UK.
